Charlie Poole
Banjo-picker and band-leader, Charlie Poole (1892-1931), started the old-time group North Carolina Ramblers and was known for his three-finger style banjo playing. In 1925, the Ramblers were signed to Columbia records and their popularity boomed. It was a sound that would not be duplicated until Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys brought it back nearly a generation later.
